Gwersyll yr Urdd Glan-llyn, Bala

Situated on the shores of Llyn Tegid near Bala, Gwersyll yr Urdd Glan-llyn is an outdoor education centre owned by Urdd Gobaith Cymru - the Welsh League of Youth - which celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2012.

Glan-llyn is in fact one of three residential centres owned by Urdd Gobaith Cymru (the other two are Llangrannog, in Cardigan Bay, and Gwersyll yr Urdd Caerdydd at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay). What's really special about Glan-llyn is the way it prides itself on giving children and young people access to exceptional rural and outdoor activities, here in the heart of Snowdonia. This outstanding outdoor education centre offers some of the best activity courses, water sports and activity holidays in wales, and is perfect for a family holiday or for groups of friends.

At Glan-llyn children, young people and adults can learn and socialise in a safe and welcoming Welsh environment. Glan-llyn's residential amenities are first class, with access to computers and wi-fi always available as well as all-day tea and coffee making, television lounges and laundry facilities.

Although Glan-llyn is best known as an action-packed residential centre, many facilities and activities are available to the public, too. For example, there's a ten-pin bowling centre with four lanes, ideal for families and groups of up to 24 people (please book in advance). And the high ropes course is also open to the public, offering an exhilarating experience at very reasonable rates (again, advance booking is required).

If you're learning Welsh, it's hard to imagine a more fun way to supplement your studies than taking a holiday at Glan-llyn, where the courses are all provided through the medium of Welsh. Whether you're canoeing, rowing, kayaking, climbing or walking, undertaking these activities through the medium of Welsh will offer a unique challenge that will really give your mind, as well as your body, a good workout!
